Hello~ I have owned Bettas for many many years but always in bowls. Frostbite is the first Betta I've ever owned who lives in a tank, so I thought I'd share him with everyone. My sister is a certified Marine Biologist and for her wedding earlier this year she had Bettas as center pieces for the tables and when the wedding was over guests could take them home. Well, I fell in love with this guy (who happened to be assigned to my table) and my sister was delighted to let me take him. I will stubbornly admit one thing...I will never put another Betta in a bowl ever again. I'd always get so upset with Bettas. I thought they were mean't for bowls. I didn't care where they came from in the wild, I just assumed that everyone did it...So, it's right, right? No lol. I have never seen/had a Betta so...Happy? His tank is a 5 gallon tank with a filter that sits on my desk and just talking to him...He swims towards the edge and just watches me. He also never sits still...My previous Bettas would just lay at the bottom of their bowls and eventually die there. Frosty is never still. He's either patrolling around the tank, following around the 3 snails or just literally free swimming around. He loves to play in the plants and nibble at the live ones I provided for him. I also have soft rock hides in his tank that he likes to swim in and out of playfully. He's really just an awesome fish in general and I've never been so attached to a dumb fish haha! And as much as I don't agree with them, he has a heater on the way from Petco. I expect it to be here the 13th. Now I do have some concerns about my Betta. When I say this, please understand I am not trying to come off as a jerk or anything...But for these questions I have, if you are inexperienced or " free-guessing" please leave your comments to yourself. I am really worried about this issue and if you have an educated guess then please do give your advice. Fish are incredibly hard to diagnose hence why I am asking a forum and not guessing myself. I am a member of a Betta Forum but they are pretty posh and I'd rather wait for him to have his heater before I have my face ripped off by fish extremists lol. QUESTIONS BELOW THE PICTURES: His Home: Frostbite: Okay...My questions: 1. Is he healthy looking? 2. Are his fins okay? 3. I am very worried about the random dark pattern on his head/upper back...It was not always there and I know Betta's change color...But it was just concerning to me. 4. Lastly, His gills are the same color on both sides, again, he used to be pure-snow-white...So when I noticed color changes it concerned me heavily. Tank Specs: -5 gallon Tank -Filter (Always on) -Lives with 3 Nerite Snails -Heater on the way -Water changes every 2 weeks, full water change every end of month. Thanks so much, guys.
