I want to start out by saying that the pronoun options on this forum are awesome as on a lot of forums, there is no feature like this! The only thing is that I, as a gender-flux person don't really have a strong preference towards one pronoun. For example, I sometimes feel degrees of femininity (and identify with she/her) but other times feel agender (and use they/their). Personally, I'll go by either pronoun at any time and it doesn't matter which one is used. Therefore, it would be awesome if there was the option to add more than one pronoun OR a write in box so that one could write in the pronouns they prefer. A write in box would also allow those who use less commonly used pronouns (such ze/zem, xe/xym, ne/nem, etc.) to write their pronouns in. I understand if it's not possible but it would be AWESOME if it were .

Thanks for your input Yeah, I strive to bring functionality to my forums that aren't seen on most other forums, because I made this place for you guys! And I want you all to enjoy it I was thinking about having a text box so that people could add their own PGPs, but I was worried about that being open to abuse by people entering text that isn't pronouns. Also changing the current control type from the dropdown list to a text box will wipe the options everyone has made (Ask me how I know lol!) As members join though and they have pronouns that aren't on my list, I could code them in easily How would extra pronouns be listed? At the moment it's as "Pronouns: She/Her" on mini profiles. Would "Alt Pronouns" work? Or something else? Bearing in mind it would have to fit within the width of the mini profile (which is why "Preferred Pronouns" is used instead in the main profile.

Hmm...I suppose alt. pronouns would work . That or if you could add an option of "She/her and They/them, He/Him and They/them". I guess really anything that allows people to say what their pronouns are (even if they identify with more than one) I understand it's difficult to make

I disagree with having alt pronouns that can be typed in, mainly because we will get people saying "My pronouns are bun/bun/bunself" or something of the like. I feel like "they/their/theirs" conveys the meaning good enough.

I feel like "they/their/theirs" conveys the meaning good enough. While I agree that there may be people to abuse the typing option (which is a risk), I do disagree with they/them/theirs being good enough. Using somebody's pronouns correctly is a sign of respect. If a person's pronoun is ze/zer, I don't feel like ze should be limited and have to say that they/them works for zem. Some people don't like the pronoun they/them as there is no singular option. While it may convey that they are non-binary, there is already an option to display your gender identity.

That raises an interesting point. Being a straight ally I support and respect different genders and pronouns, but being cishet, I struggle to fully understand the need for so many different ones, or indeed what they all mean. I'm really learning this as I'm going, and it's all very very new to me A custom text field, I've decided, won't be done, because I think there comes a point where in an effort to respect the multitude of new pronouns, people end up typing their own made up ones in; which then has the opposite affect. If instead of the handful of recognised pronouns we have now, we have thousands, because people are typing in things like "Hamself", then wouldn't that rather take away from what gender pronouns actually mean? And seeing as respect of pronouns and the need to know a persons' pronouns when in conversation is important, what happens when someone has more than one set? What is someone is She/Her and They/Them? What happens if I refer to said person as She/Her when in fact they're They/Them that day? it's not as simple as knowing a person's name, and remembering that. It's something of a socio-political minefield, and probably a big factor in why most forums or indeed other websites don't have this functionality. I'm really interested in hearing more people's views on this

What about people coming in with English not as their first language? Zey/zer/zem (I get confused and can never remember) literally cannot translate into French, or Spanish. The closest thing in French would be vous, or on, if I'm correct. Which basically translates into "they". I just can't see the need for made up pronouns in any capacity.
