First of all,it is extremely important to not select a bird simply because others claim they're easy to start with. What matters above all is that you feel comfortable with that species of bird, and that you can provide the right care for that species. While it may not be very good to choose a bird simply because you like it,it's also not good to just go into bird care and randomly getting a budgie or a cockatiel because you've had no other experience with birds. No bird is disposable, but really if you go into the situation of bird ownership and get a bird that just isn't right for you that you don't even enjoy the whole experience won't be as satisfying and enjoyable.Beginner birds are not good, but what I would recommend instead is that if you truly want a macaw for example or an African Grey just ask yourself if you could afford the right care for that bird,if you could commit to up to 100 years and most likely signing a bird over to another family member in your will, etc.Ask yourself if you're actually the right owner for that bird, not if that bird is easy to care for.All birds will benefit from outdoor aviaries, large cages,a proper diet, etc. It doesn't matter if you choose a budgie or a macaw, all birds are very different. If you go into the situation thinking you'll get a budgie to prepare for a macaw, that's a horrible idea.It really couldn't prepare you for the personality or sheer size of a macaw. All that can prepare you for a macaw,is a macaw. All that can prepare you for a cockatoo is a cockatoo, and the list goes on.I would however suggest spending time in bird shelters and such, and really learning about the personalities and educating yourself on species specific care and outdoor aviaries.
Overall, the biggest message I want any future bird owners to see is that choosing a species that is suited to your personality is extremely important. If anyone wants help choosing a species in the future or wants more advice,I would be happy to help and hopefully we get more people with bird knowledge here as well!
