As some of you know, I just went away on holiday for a week. As some of you also know, I have an absolute arsehole of a hamster called Gizmo (rofl) Just kidding, she's amazing, and sweet, and all these wonderful things. She's also an absolute bugger for escaping. She's escaped literally every cage I have had her in, so I decided that I'd either have to leave her in the bathtub for the whole week I was away, or get her a new cage, since my birdies have commandeered my usually most secure cage, the Alaska. By coincidence, just a few days before I went away, I got an email from Amazon; you know, the ones where they send to stuff you might like based on what you've bought/searched for? Well, it had this in it: "Little Friends" Mamble 100 cage
Cost: £39.00
Dimensions (l x w x h): 100 x 54 x 64 cm Floor area: 5400 sq cm (840 sq in) Bar spacing: 1 cm Okay, so here's how the cage arrived: The instructions? Very helpful... not So yes, this cage took quite a bit of figuring out, a fair heft of manpower, and large pliers. Once together, it's really sturdy, and there aren't any large gaps. Access is via two large doors (18 cm x 23 cm) on the front of the cage. One quibble I have is that, even if you stick your whole arm into the cage, you (I) can't reach the back corners for spot-cleaning etc ._. This needs some sort of roof-door or side-doors, I think. Also, the two smaller doors aren't going to be as easy as one large one (like the Alaska) for cleaning. It comes with pieces to build some tubes, and they're really massive (I'd say rat-sized), and chains to suspend them from the ceiling. It also comes with two platforms, one flat and one bucket-shaped. I used the bucket-shaped one as a sand-bath: The interior: The top level and tube to get to it: There's a slight worry that it's so high, but actually, you can put the platform at any level you like. The bars are vertical, so even Gizmo finds it difficult to climb them, and she doesn't monkey-bar as much as she did in her other cage with horizontal bars. The base is deep enough for bedding around 6 inches. Overall, I really like this cage and I'd definitely recommend it. The only other cage of similar size in a similar price range is the Alaska, which is quite a bit smaller and doesn't come with as many accessories. Pros: - Big (840 sq in)
- Cheap (£40)
- Comes with accessories (two platforms, wide tubes, water bottle)
- Narrow bars so no meshing needed
- Deep base for bedding (~6 in)
- Vertical bars so discourages climbing
Cons:
- Difficult to assemble with one person! Two pairs of hands and pliers required. No instructions.
- Fairly small doors for the size of the cage
- High (falling risk)
