FINISHED!!(For real this time!) I have FINALLY after WEEKS of work, got custom genders to display properly on the miniprofile, while at the same time hiding the default gender! I tried everything... I tried polling the {else} statement, so if no custom gender was selected, the default gender would show instead. This didn't work I tried setting a variable flag in JS if a custom selected was selected, then using another section of JS to show the default gender if this flag was NOT set. This didn't work I tried putting JS code in the custom option directly, so if a custom option was selected, hide the default gender. This also didn't work JS didn't work, JQuery didn't work, hiding the div calling a class didn't work, hiding a div calling an ID didn't work, even after generating random IDs on the fly! Finally I put both the default and the custom gender blocks in a div, set the div to a set size and the custom gender on top of the default gender, setting the custom gender background to white. If a custom gender was shown, this would appear over the top of the default gender. THIS WORKED! So finally we have custom genders which display properly, and hide the default gender! !! atleast you didn't tear off your skin and eat it cx

Can't believe I didn't think of overlaying them before I've been working on this for weeks!

I've hacked about at the CSS to move the custom gender field right next to the system default gender field on the edit profile page Are there better names for default and custom gender? Binary and non-binary? It's trivial now to change the control labels to whatever I want
